Fun With Tunisian

OK so I'm working on Tunisian stitch and color changes AND carrying yarn as I do so. I don't always like to cut yarn and have a million ends to sew in at the end of a project.

Here is the right side of a test swatch I did:

Here is the reverse:

I don't like the "floaters" going up the left side of the work; that's the result of carrying the yarn instead of cutting it with each color change. I'm not sure if there's a way to hide that or do it some other way that it's not seen. Hmmmmmmm....

This past weekend I fixed the clasp on this necklace (it belongs to a coworker) and I also made matching earrings and a bracelet. :)

Tunisian Honeycomb Stitch

I just remembered - I was supposed to post some photos of a Tunisian honeycomb stitch scarf I'm working on. So here are the photos...one shows a closeup of the material, so the pattern is more clearly visible...

 

It's really a very easy stitch to do. What I'm doing is putting a stitch marker in the rows that begin with TSS (Tunisian simple stitch) and just go from there!

This is where I give in to my ugly, fire-breathing dragon side, the side of me that reminds people that there are limitations and laws that restrict what people such as crafters can do.

I just saw, over on Repeat Crafter Me, this post. Sarah has made these DARLING stitch markers that are inspired by her favorite coffee retailer, Starbucks. On the post she included instructions on how to make the markers if people like them and want their own.

In Which....

...I get a bit weird.

I want to make this afghan, or one very close to it.

Most people now would look at that and say "it looks like the bus from that old TV show The Partridge Family!"

Well, it's not just a case of bright, bold colors and strong geometric patterns....time for an art history lesson!

This art style comes from the neo-plasticism movement, which originated with a Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian (1872-1944)...

 

Apache Tears Pattern

I FINALLY got the hang of this pattern! Something about it really foxed me for the longest time, but I'm getting much better at it. I know my left edge isn't perfect, but that can be ironed out later. I'm kinda tired right now so I might be missing a stitch at the end of the row or whatever. No big deal; it's just a test swatch so I'll know to look closer at that next time.

Quick Update

I'm working on a little project right now, a Tunisian honeycomb scarf, and I'll post a photo as soon as I get one. But first, I want to make a note here that my heart goes out to Clare of bobwilson123; her lovely crochet videos are part of how I've learned anything of crochet at all. She posted this on her blog, and it's really not good news at all.

I don't know if she believes in God or not...but I hope she and her dad can find comfort as they walk through this difficult time together.
