Chelsea's Scarf

The first item I made in my new apartment! This is a scarf I made for a coworker named Chelsea. She requested a scarf made in the same style as my long pink and black one, but she chose royal blue and white. She also wanted it shorter than mine. So I did this mesh scarf in hdc/ch 1 stitches all the way through the garment. Hat and mittens, in royal blue, to follow. :)

Tunisian Honeycomb Stitch

I just remembered - I was supposed to post some photos of a Tunisian honeycomb stitch scarf I'm working on. So here are the photos...one shows a closeup of the material, so the pattern is more clearly visible...

It's really a very easy stitch to do. What I'm doing is putting a stitch marker in the rows that begin with TSS (Tunisian simple stitch) and just go from there!

3 New Scarves

I completed two new scarves this week. One was for a Chicago Bears fan. Here is a photo of it before I put the last row of blue yarn on:

This one was done in rows of crossed double crochet. I finished off at the end of each row and left long tails which became fringe.

And I did a Joseph's Coat scarf in some very wintry colors:

And of course, my diabetes awareness scarf:

Funny that I make many scarves but I live in Florida and can't wear them very often. Well, it's just what I do.

Now, I also have this:

...and I'm considering making a scarf out of a bunch of them. Hmmm. It's pretty involved, but imagine what it'd look like in the end.

My Road Trip Scarf

OK I just completed this road trip scarf. It is named that because the woman who designed it did so while on a road trip with her husband.

I gotta say this: given the yarn I used (Red Heart Super Saver) and the fact that I did not change hooks as I was supposed to do (oops), it does fit me sort of funny. It's like a big old bib. What I think I'm going to do with the next one I make of this pattern is a big shawl, not a scarf. In fact, I've already started it and I'm using this yarn:

This is Red Heart Super Saver in Mexicana colorway. It's BRIGHT!!! We'll see how this goes!

Skinny Scarf

OK over on FiberFlux I found THIS pattern for a skinny scarf. I really liked it, thought "oh that looks easy so I'll make it," and I grabbed some yarn and began stitching.

Here's what I have so far:

The problem I seem to have with my scarf is how it tilts uphill to the right. I'm not sure why it's doing that. Her scarf stitches look perfectly straight and I'm not sure what I've done to make mine tilted.

Got any ideas? Or should I just go with it and incorporate that into my scarf?

That said, if I can get this figured out, I had a GREAT idea with this. Stitch up a whole boatload of these in various colors - say I do some in this sangria color, and some in red, and some in violet, etc - and then find a way to sew them or crochet them together to make an afghan! Sort of like a granny square afghan or mile-a-minute afghans. I may try that with some scrap yarn and do a couple of sample or test strips. I think I'll do that this weekend...

Yarns

Here's a stash buster project I've started on - partially to burn up some cheap yarn I have, and to practice the chevron stitch I've just learned:

The thing is, the red yarn and the variegated yarn here are Craft Smart yarns, bought at Michaels craft stores. I gotta say - this yarn feels like SANDPAPER. It's SO scratchy and rough! There is nothing soft about it!

I'm hoping that I can wash this with some fabric softener and it will feel a lot better; I know I had some good luck on that front with Red Heart Super Saver yarn, which also feels very rough. I made a mesh market bag with some of their deep red Claret color yarn, and with Red Heart, their dark colors are often very scratchy. Black is the worst. Well, I tossed that bag in the wash with some fabric softener, and the difference was amazing.

The pink yarn in this project is Red Heart Super Saver, and it's not too bad as far as roughness is concerned. I made a scarf with some of this, as well as some black RHSS. I've used the scarf all winter long and it's held up well, it's not too scratchy, and it has some nice drape to it (but I did make the scarf in a mesh pattern, with a slightly larger hook than is normally used with this yarn, and this gives the work some nice drape). I'm not sure if I want to continue using this pink yarn with the Craft Smart for this; perhaps I could use the pink RHSS for something else?

Well, RHSS is cheap enough yarn; if I need more hot pink I can get some.

I did find a new favorite yarn: Bernat Super Value yarn. I'm doing this with a couple of colors I found:

It's sooooooo soft and buttery. I love this yarn. This may be my go-to yarn from now on.

3 Joseph's Coat Scarves

I really like doing this simple, simple stitch. I made these three scarves, but the neon one on the right I might continue to add rows to, and make it a shawl or even an afghan.

Loom Knitting

I LOVE loom knitting! I'm just getting started with it, and I do one basic stitch for the time being with it, but I have noticed, by way of viewing YouTube videos and checking various websites, that one can knit and purl and do cables and all kinds of things with loom knitting. So I'll get to that eventually!

I like loom knitting because, quite frankly, I'm too clumsy to manage knitting with needles. So this is a good substitution for me.

I'm working on this scarf:

I loves me the cool, elegant colors of that yarn, which is Lion Brand Wool-Ease Thick n Quick yarn, in....I think they call that color "marble."

I've actually got much further on this scarf than the photo indicates. I have almost used up the first skein of yarn, and I'm ready to add the second skein. I'm not sure if I should "magic knot" it on or figure out something else; this is the first time I'm adding more yarn to a project like this, and it's not quite like crochet!

But I got a good close up photo of the stitches:

So yeah. Hopefully as I keep going I'll figure out how to do cables and whatnot.

Yellow Chain Stitch Scarf

Here's a yellow chain stitch scarf I made some time ago, and never got around to posting the photo:

I've worn this on fairly warm days in Florida, and it's not too bad. It's made with Lion brand chunky yarn. I have two of these; one is just one long length of chain and the other is chain that is joined at the top, underneath the wrapping seen here in this photo:

Both of these photos show the same scarf. With this one, I just chained about....I think it was 135 stitches, then joined the ends and chained another 135 stitches, and joined the end, and did that about five times. I think it was five. Anyway, I then wrapped lots of the excess yarn around the joins, to cover them. In this second photo, I'm wearing the scarf full-length. In the first photo, I have it doubled around my neck. That's how I usually wear it.

I have another color of chain stitch scarf, in this shade:

That's Lion brand Hometown USA chunky yarn, in the Jersey Gardens color. I love those soft shades in it. I haven't taken a picture of the Jersey Gardens scarf yet; I'll get to that later.

Arm-Knit Scarf

Earlier this month I knit, using my forearms, a red and pink scarf:

One thing I do have to say: if you're going to arm knit a scarf, there is one very important step you need to take before getting yarn all over both of your arms. Go to the bathroom!

Once that yarn is completely wrapped around your forearms, you're handcuffed in and there's no getting out of it very easily.

Fortunately, arm-knitting works up very quickly, especially when using double chunky yarn. So this shouldn't take more than half an hour or so.

I do have some marble variegated yarn, blending white and black and grey, and I may have to do another scarf like this with that yarn.

Although I have to admit: while these infinity scarves are cool, I think I prefer regular scarves to wear. I feel like the wearer can do more things with the scarf, wrapping it in different ways; styling with an infinity scarf seems more limited to me. Hmmmm.

Well anyway, there's my first arm-knit infinity scarf!

New Chain Stitch Scarf

This is a closeup of the new chain stitch scarf I just made. I unraveled a white & gold ruffle scarf and added that into the mix of yarns, and that just really made the whole thing.

I took a few pictures of different ways to wrap it too...

Since I didn't join the ends, it's not an "infinity scarf" but it can be made into one if one knots the ends together, as seen on my right shoulder in the last picture.

It's definitely warm, and definitely scratchy! I'm not sure washing it with fabric softener will take care of that either; I think it's the glitter that is making it scratchy. Well, either one lives with it or wears it on the outside of one's other garments and allows as little of it as possible to touch one's skin directly.

But there ya go. New chain stitch scarf.

Pattern Link: Joseph's Coat Scarf

I really like this pattern: Joseph's Coat Scarf

So easy, and such a great stash-buster project, far better than the fringe scarf I made. LOL! :)

Pink & Black Scarf

My pink & black scarf:

I've gotten some use out of this in recent days. Mornings & evenings can be a bit chilly!

I'd considered sewing the ends together to make it an infinity scarf, but I think I like it as a regular scarf better.

I should make some pink & black fingerless gloves to match it. :)

EDIT:

Here's the completed scarf on me...it's actually a favorite scarf of mine now.

Finger Knit I-Cord Scarf

This is the white i-cord scarf I knit, using my fingers as a knitting loom.

First, a closeup of the weave itself:

Now a pic of the entire scarf:

I didn't make it too long; I only wanted to do a short and lightweight test run of this weave and see how it turned out. I added the whimsical grey flowers to the end of the scarf later.
